T. Rowe Price, the US-based investment manager, has launched a European Smaller Companies Equity vehicle as part of its Luxembourg SICAV range.
The fund will invest in a portfolio of smaller companies at all stages of their business cycle.
These will be businesses that are established or conducting the predominant part of their activity in Europe and whose market capitalisation, at the time of purchase, falls within or below the range covered by the S&P Extended Market (EMI) Pan Europe Index.
The portfolio will be managed by Justin Thomson, who has been the lead portfolio manager of the T. Rowe Price Non-US Small Cap Equity strategy since 1998.
He will be supported by three London-based analysts focusing on European small and mid-cap stocks.
Thomson says: "We are launching this strategy at a time of heightened pessimism for the economy and earnings and near record aversion to risk. This creates opportunities."
The new small cap fund is also available to investors as a segregated account.
