Former Prudential UK chief executive Nick Prettejohn has joined Legal & General (L&G) as a non-executive director.
He replaces Frances Heaton, who retires after holding the position since July 2001.
"Frances has been a very effective and distinguished member of the board and audit committee," says John Stewart, chairman of L&G.
"I am very pleased that Nick has agreed to join the board.
"He brings a strong intellect and a wealth of UK and international insurance expertise and knowledge to the role, and I look forward to working with him."
Prettejohn was also executive director of Prudential Plc from 2006 to 2009, and previously chief executive of Lloyd's of London from 1999 to 2005.
As part of his new role, Prettejohn will join L&G's remuneration and risk committees.
