Nasdaq OMX and PC Bond, a provider of Canadian fixed income benchmarks, have joined forces to create a family of US Treasury indices.
The RBC Insight Total Return US Treasury Indexes family comprises 22 indices, which - unlike existing bond indices - rebalance on a daily basis.
This feature "gives investors access to more information more frequently," says John Jacobs, executive vice president, Nasdaq OMX Global Index Group.
"This enables investors to make better informed investment decisions. Tracking errors can be reduced when rebalancing portfolios. Daily rebalancing also provides a more accurate reflection of current market conditions."
Although there are already several US Treasury indices in existence, Jacobs says that there was demand from market participants for US Treasury indices which "provide a unique viewpoint into the active US debt issuance market".
The indices are part of Nasdaq OMX Global Index Watch, which provides historical data for Nasdaq indices. This means they will be delivered on multiple platforms.
Jacobs adds that there has been interest from ETF providers in this new suite of indices.
