The UK government in 2010 became the first in the world to set up a dedicated "nudge unit". Officially known as the Behavioural Insights Team Ltd, a ‘social purpose' company in which the Cabinet Office is the primary shareholder, the team of academics, including behavioural psychologists and economists, is tasked with finding simple and cost-effective strategies that influence consumer choices in a way the government sees as desirable.
