'Old energy is not dead - but growth opportunities are in new energy'

In this week’s episode of The Pro Adviser Podcast, Hannah Godfrey talks to Guinness Asset Management fund managers Jonathan Waghorn and Will Riley, who together manage the firm’s traditional energy fund and the sustainable energy fund.

Conventional energy makes up 85% of the world energy market, but the greatest growth opportunities lie in sustainable energy, according to Riley (pictured, left).  The fund manager reckons there will be a major expansion of wind and solar generating capacity over the next 10 years, and the penetration of electric vehicles, now about 3% of global auto sales, in 5 years will be at 20% and in 10 years 50%.  That said, Waghorn (pictured, right)is of the opinion conventional energy is by no means dead, and suggests demand is still peaking for oil and gas, and in particular there is money t...
