Baroness Altmann has resigned as minister of state for pensions, suggesting "short-term political considerations, exacerbated by the EU referendum, have inhibited good policy-making".

She has been replaced by MP for Watford Richard Harrington who has been named parliamentary under-secretary of state for pensions in Theresa May's government following Altmann's resignation on Friday. Harrington, elected in May 2010, had been the under-secretary of state for Syrian refugees since September last year but was moved to the Department for Work and Pensions on Sunday (17 July).
