The IA Mixed Investment 20-60% Shares sector's equity band is so wide as to be of limited assistance to anyone trying to make sense of this diverse fund grouping, writes Gill Hutchison, so she suggests other factors to consider

There are five ‘Mixed Asset' sectors, according to the Investment Association (IA) - Flexible Investment, Mixed Investment 0-35% Shares, Mixed Investment 20-60% Shares, Mixed Investment 40-85% Shares and UK Equity and Bond Income.  In terms of assets under management, the 20-60% Shares and the 40-85% Shares sectors are the most popular by a significant margin.
