A slight relief for Rupert Murdoch's two national newspapers The Sun and The Times as their 2am editions report that the exit polls put the Conservatives as the largest party predicting 305 seats for David Cameron.

Will The Sun now call him Dave all the time? Its headline just about sums up what the election was really about ‘Cameron wins the eXit factor' following on from its ‘exclusive' interview with Simon Cowell on Wednesday. Just to prove that whole process is a bit like tabloid TV - at least for The Sun - it says Dave Cameron got a call from Arnie Schwarzenegger, governor of California, wishing him congratulations.
