Untangling the true cost of financial advice This weekend The Sunday Times published the results of its audit into the fees of financial adviser firms. It claims "many" firms fail to publish their charges online, use dozens of different terms for fees, apply up to six layers of costs and levy negative interest rates on some cash holdings. The paper conducted a survey of 30 "leading" financial advisers - companies that advise on investments, ways to reduce tax or plan for retirement, and hold more than £250bn of investors' cash - to discover details of their charges.
