The Treasury select committee has warned the Treasury it will refuse to approve future high level appointments if the government fails to pursue gender diversity at the senior level of the Bank of England.

Writing to Chancellor Philip Hammond, committee chair Nicky Morgan demanded the Treasury publish details of all applications to the Monetary Policy Comittee (MPC) and Financial Policy Committee, including the gender of the applicants, over recent years. Treasury select committee members expressed concerns over a lack of "diversity at the most senior levels in the Bank of England", according to The Financial Times.
