Women born in the 1950s facing steep increases to their state pension age will get no further concessions from the government, a minister has said.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Monday, under secretary of state for work and pensions Shailesh Vara, said there were "no plans for any further transitional arrangements". Women born during the 1950s are campaigning for fairer treatment after what they claim is a government communication breakdown about when they would be able to retire. The government has been under fire for a 2011 coalition decision which accelerated the speed of the already planned state pension age rise for women from 65 to 66.
