MoJ consults on cutting LPA waiting times

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is proposing to reduce the length of time it takes to process applications to register a lasting power of attorney (LPA).

It is seeking industry feedback on whether to reduce the Statutory Waiting Time on LPAs from six to five weeks, bringing it in line with the current waiting period on Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA). It added it may consider waiving the limit completely in times of emergency. The waiting time reduction is one of a number of proposals outlined in a MoJ consultation paper, Transforming the Services of the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG).
