How much can any experienced professional adviser be expected to know?

Let me rephrase that: How much would the general public expect an experienced professional adviser to know? Once more: If you didn’t know what you know now (that little, if anything, is predictable in financial services), what would you expect an experienced professional adviser to know? For example, should an adviser have foreseen the 2008 market crash? Or the eurozone crisis? Surely there were signs.
