HMRC to name and shame tax avoiders from April

HMRC plans to publicly name and shame tax dodgers from 1 April.

Those who are found to have avoided paying £25,000 or more in tax will be identified to the press and public. The concept is based on Irish rules which allow tax collectors to reveal the details of serious avoiders, which receive considerable public attention. Anyone found to have committed tax fraud worth over £25,000 after 1 April can expect to have their details published. However, it is unlikely any names will be published until the end of the tax year in 2011.
