Julius Baer to bring North Africa fund onshore

Julius Baer has announced its intention to launch an onshore version of its Northern Africa fund, which will provide exposure to the most developed capital markets and diversified economies in the region.

The offshore fund's biggest holdings are in Egypt with about 35pc, followed by around 30pc invested in Moroccan stocks. It currently has $170m under management, raised since launch on 27 September 2007. The fund is co-managed by Zurich-based emerging market experts Alexander Shalash, head of the emerging market equity team, and Malek Bou-Diab. It will be marketed through the newly launched Julius Baer Investments Products team in London and investment will initially be open to wealth managers, insurance companies, investment banks and fund of funds.
