Bookies have given a 50/50 chance that terms such as quantitative easing and infrastructure will feature in this afternoon's budget, according to latest betting odds.

Ladbrokes has given even odds at 1/1 on the words ‘motorways' and ‘quantitative easing' cropping up in Chancellor George Osborne's 2012 Budget statement, with the word ‘toll' featuring at 2/1. For those who like a more esoteric flutter, bookies are giving odds on the colour of the Chancellor's tie, the number of sips of water he will take during the statement and whether justice secretary Ken Clarke will fall asleep.
