Driving home from a speaking engagement recently, I was amused to overtake a van decorated with a description of its flame-proofing solutions as ‘Firetech'. Adding the suffix ‘tech' to any noun has echoes of ‘dotcom' - something of a magic word almost two decades ago implying new paradigms that ultimately became a curse. Tech has now replaced the word ‘operations', while that most over-applied of sobriquets ‘disruption' often just means "new". We have Fintech and its subsets Insurtech and Banktech.
