Standard Life CEO David Nish's comments that the life insurer is keen to start exploring other distribution routes besides advisers, including direct to consumer and via employers, are still sending shock waves through the industry.

In an interview with the Financial Mail, Nish said, although he intends to give advisers all the support they need to make the jump from being paid by commission to fees post-RDR, he would not rule out looking at other sales routes for the life giant's products. "I want to bring the outside world into Standard Life," he says. "We are doing something we have never done before, which is talk to customers.
