GDP nudges up 0.3% in May

The UK economy grew by 0.3% in May, returning to positive territory after a slump of 0.4% in April, but concerns over the longer-term picture linger.

Growth for the three months to May was also 0.3%, with all sectors in the black, but economists warn this may not be enough to avoid recession in Q2. Over three months to May, services and production contributed positively to growth, each up 0.3%, while construction remained flat with zero contribution to growth, the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show.
