UK inflation unchanged at 2.4% in October

Inflation in the UK remained steady at 2.4% in October, unchanged from the previous month that saw CPI fall to its lowest level so far in 2018.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell to 2.4% in September from 2.7% in August, as prices for food, non-alcoholic beverages, transport, and recreation and culture dropped. In October, year-on-year price growth remained at 2.4%, despite analysts' predictions of a slight rise to 2.5%.  According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the largest downward contributions to the October figure came from food and non-alcoholic beverages, with food prices falling 0.1% between September and October, compared with a rise of 0.5% between the same two months a year ago.
