Advisers expect paraplanners to take on more substantial planning role

Paraplanners are taking on bigger roles at advice firms, with two-fifths of businesses now expecting them to take on a more substantial planning role, research from Canada Life has suggested.

According to the life company's 2018 Hot Issues Tracker survey, advisers are increasingly "appreciating the importance of paraplanners", with some two-thirds (65%) acknowledging they help to free up time to allow advisers to do more valuable activities. Half of advisers meanwhile said paraplanners added value in non-financial ways, such as researching options. Paraplanners work in half of adviser firms, Canada Life found, with a further third (30%) of financial advisers expecting to employ a paraplanner in the near future.
