‘Stuck in inertia’

Investors are "not moving fast enough" in their awareness of outcome-orientated investment strategies, Russell Investments chief investment officer Gerard Fitzpatrick has said.

Speaking at the firm's mid-year outlook event, Fitzpatrick acknowledged that while there was a growing popularity of outcome-orientated investment strategies, such as income and downside protection funds, this trend was not catching on fast enough. "There is still this theme in the industry of some investors stuck in the inertia, not arguably moving fast enough," he commented. He used the analogy of comparing an "old-fashioned phone" with an iPhone and asking an investor which they would pick. "It's an absolute no brainer," he said.
