No place for police in British Steel pension probe, says trade body boss

FCA found no evidence of scams

There is no place for police involvement in British Steel pension transfer cases as there is no evidence of a crime being committed, according to Libertatem director general Garry Heath.

The financial adviser trade body boss's comments follow the news that police in south Wales are reviewing information they have received on British Steelworker pension transfers. Heath said it was "rather bizarre" the police had become involved in the matter when "the Financial Conduct Authority [FCA] is already dealing with it".  A statement from South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police is aware of recent media reports surrounding a pension scheme concerning steel workers at Port Talbot and is currently reviewing certain information that has been brought to our attention."
