Lord backs Select Committee's cold-calling ban proposal

'A very welcome improvement'

Lord Sharkey has welcomed the proposed changes to the Financial Guidance and Claims Bill suggested by the Work and Pensions Committee, in a letter to its chair Frank Field.

A report produced by the Committee earlier in December proposed two changes to the bill. It suggested a change to clause 4, which would require the government to introduce a ban on pension cold-calling by June 2018 at the latest, rather than allow the ban to be contingent on the formation of the Single Financial Guidance Body, which is not expected to be operational until October 2018. It also proposed an amendment to clause 5, which would create a "guidance by default" provision that ensures individuals either receive or expressly refuse guidance before being granted access to a pension...
