Pulse Insurance has launched Positive Life, a straightforward solution for anyone with HIV who is otherwise healthy.
Clients will have a simple proposal form to complete confirming there are no other current health issues to consider and that they meet the basic eligibility requirements. Medicals or doctors' reports are not required.
Cover is on a 10-year term life basis with a fixed sum assured of £50,000 for non-smokers or £25,000 for anyone who has used nicotine products in the last 12 months. Cover is £30 per month for anyone under 40, Pulse Insurance added.
Pulse Insurance is a specialist insurance business that offers life and protection products to intermediaries and direct to consumers.
'Science moving faster than attitudes'
The firm's managing director Torquil McLusky said: "We are really excited to be launching this product.
"The advances in treatment for HIV and viral conditions in the past few years have been staggering and insurers do seem to have lagged behind in reacting to that.
"Last year the approval by the courts to the funding of Prep - the pre-exposure prophylaxis - was an important milestone.
"But science is moving faster than attitudes. Hopefully Positive Life is a good first step in offering people with HIV the choice of simple life cover without the need for a medical."
