Chancellor Philip Hammond has promised to continue fiscal consolidation in a bid to "get Britain back living within our means" while warning of "turbulence" as a result of the Brexit vote.

In his speech to the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham today, Hammond (pictured) said there was "no room for complacency" despite recent data having turned out better than expected. Acknowledging many businesses that trade with the EU were uncertain about what lies ahead - "the process of the negotiation and the deal that will be done - the Chancellor said: "I understand their concerns - business hates uncertainty."
