Complaints driven by general insurance sales

Advising, selling and arranging issues are the main cause of financial services complaints, accounting for more than half of consumer grievances across the sector, according to the latest figures from the regulator.

Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) data for the second half of 2015 has shown complaints related to advising and selling products increased by 1% to 1,239,018 cases, making up 59% of all consumer grievances in the period. The FCA said general insurance and pure protection - which includes payment protection insurance (PPI) - accounted for the bulk of intermediary-related complaints, after they saw a 19% rise in cases between July and December.
