L&G chief: Providers should have no role in pensions 'guidance'

Product providers should have no role in delivering free retirement guidance, following the 'advice for all' proposals in the Budget, Legal & General (L&G) chief executive Nigel Wilson has said.

"A genuinely impartial, independent body - not a product provider - has to be the organisation providing the guidance", Wilson told the Daily Mail. "Delivering this guidance guarantee won't be easy, but it is key to the success of the Chancellor's pension reforms." To support the government's far-reaching changes to pensions unveiled at Budget 2014, George Osborne said every retiree should have access to free, impartial financial guidance on their options.
