Total market capitalisation for emerging markets will account for up to a third of global markets by 2018, according to Barings.
The group believes that UK investors' exposure to emerging markets should be significantly higher - IMA data shows that domestic investors currently allocate just 1.6pc of their total portfolio to equities in these markets. According to its own analysis of MSCI statistics, Barings found that the proportion of total market capitalisation represented by the emerging world has increased by an annual equivalent of almost 1pc per year since 1999.
