Green issues and human rights are top ethical concerns

The environment and human rights are now the top 'ethical' concerns, replacing issues such as tobacco and arms manufacturing, according to a survey of the public's ethical attitudes undertaken by F&C Investments.

The survey of 2,000 people also revealed that almost three in five (58pc) would like to invest ethically; an increase of 10pc from 18 months ago. Of these, almost half would be prepared to invest ethically, even if it meant sacrificing some of their potential returns. Significantly, almost nine in ten (86pc) of those surveyed perceived ethical investments to be no more risky or just as risky as other investments, although more than half (55pc) thought ethical investments would deliver lower returns than conventional investments.
