Private equity tops alternative vote

PRIVATE equity is now the most popular form of alternative investment, according to a survey from Trustnet.

The company found the investment community now favours the asset class over other non-mainstream options, including hedge funds and collectibles such as classic cars or art. Given a number of choices, 38pc of respondents opted to go down the private equity route. Paul Wynne, Trustnet’s head of marketing and communication, said: “Private equity products clearly have a place in modern portfolios as an asset class.” The company’s poll, which surveyed private investors and advisers, showed 19pc of the group used hedge funds and products making extensive use of futures and derivatives ...
