UK property returns hit new low

MONTHLY returns from UK commercial property dipped to their lowest for 12 years last month, according to the latest figures from Industry Property Databank (IPD).

The July index indicated an all-property return of just 0.2pc during the month, comprising income return of 0.4pc, and capital return of -0.2pc. Only the office sector outperformed the all-property average, driven largely by the buoyant central London market. It returned 0.7pc, offsetting negative returns in the retail sector. Though weak, returns from property still exceeded those from the FTSE All-Share index, which delivered returns of -3.3pc over the month. For the year to July, meanwhile, all-property returns were 11.1pc, though these too were down on the year-to-June data. ...
