Baring Asset Management is set to launch a fund investing primarily in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, subject to regulatory approval.
Managed by Dr Ghadir Abu Leil-Cooper, head of Barings' emerging Europe, Middle East and Africa equities team, Baring MENA fund will aim to provide long-term capital growth. Leil-Cooper explained that the region has strong investment prospects, with economic growth rates likely to rise by more than 5pc annually for the next few years. This will be driven by high oil and gas prices, infrastructure spend and consumption, whilst growth has a low correlation with the rest of the world.
