The success of the PFS's new conference format, which last week combined its four major conferences into one flagship 'Festival of Financial Planning' in Birmingham, shows how consolidation can be done right, writes Tom Ellis

I attended the Personal Finance Society's (PFS) London conference at Wembley this time last year and, do not get me wrong, it was a decent event. The 2017 incarnation at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre was, however, an entirely different kettle of fish, with more than 3,000 delegates rocking up to the festival.  And while it was fun writing up last year's event while overlooking the hallowed turf at Wembley, the morning and afternoon sessions had nothing on this year's two-day bonanza.
