In this week's Investment Influencers video interview, profiling the most respected individuals who select funds, decide ratings or otherwise influence the allocation of investor fund flows, we chat to Lothar Mentel.
Mentel is chief executive officer for Tatton Investment Management. Prior to setting up Tatton IM in 2012, he was, from 2008, the chief investment officer for Octopus Investments, where he built a multi-manager fund business up to £1.6bn in assets under management. His Octopus investment team won the Moneyfacts best multi-manager team in 2011.
Before Octopus, Mentel held senior positions with NM Rothschild, Threadneedle, Barclays Wealth and Commerzbank Asset Management. He began his career in Germany as a performance and risk analyst and later designed and launched the Barclays Multi Manager funds.
Boasting more than 20 years' investment management experience, Mentel is a regular contributor to industry conferences, publications and industry body work-groups. He was educated in Germany and holds a postgraduate degree in Business and Economics (Diplom Oekonom) from Rhur-Universitaet Bochum.
The Investment Influencers series, which has most recently featured James Costello of Davy Asset Management, Ruli Viljoen of Morningstar and James Bateman of Fidelity, offers insights into how key players in the asset management sector see the world of investing and expect to deal with such challenges as greater market volatility, increased regulation and a growing trend towards short-termism.
