In this week's Investment Influencers video interview, profiling the most respected individuals who select funds, decide ratings or otherwise influence the allocation of investor fund flows, we chat to David Coombs.
Coombs is head of multi-asset investments at Rathbone Unit Trust Management, where he also lead-manages the Rathbone Multi Asset Portfolios - Strategic Growth, Strategic Income, Total Return and Enhanced Growth - and co-manages the Rathbone Strategic Bond Fund with Bryn Jones.
He is also a member of Rathbones' Investment Executive Committee, with responsibility across the group for its investment proposition offered to multi-office financial advisory firms, and sits on Rathbones' Strategic Asset Allocation Committee.
An Associate of the Chartered Institute of Financial Services, Coombs joined Rathbones in April 2007 from Baring Asset Management, where he developed the firm's absolute return investment process in the 1990s. He joined Barings in 1988 from Hambros Bank in Guernsey, where he started his career in 1984.
Over his three decades of experience - more than 20 years of which has been in multi-asset management - he has managed unitised and segregated funds for institutional pension funds, captive insurance companies, corporate trustees and private clients including the Baring Optimum, and Extended Risk funds.
The Investment Influencers series, which has most recently featured Bill McQuaker of Fidelity, Oren Kaplan of SharingAlpha and Mike Neumann of EQ Investors, offers insights into how key players in the asset management sector see the world of investing and expect to deal with such challenges as greater market volatility, increased regulation and a growing trend towards short-termism.
