Clients rarely have clear long-term goals so it was odd, says Nick Lincoln, when one couple knew exactly what they wanted…

When we ask about aspirations, clients are very clear on one thing: they do not want anything less than the lifestyle they have now. But beyond that, they are often vague. Most people say they want to be independent at 60 or 65, simply because it's the default age. But two of my clients - a young couple with two children and plans for a third - have something very particular in mind: they want to send all three kids to a fee-paying school from the ages of four up until 18.
