Steelworkers' pro bono guidance saves two men £60k on first day

A pro bono initiative set up by an adviser, that offers guidance to British steelworkers on their pensions, has saved two steelworkers a combined £60,000 in its first day.

Operation CHIVE - short for 'Counselling, Help, Information, Volunteer Exchange' - had its first sessions yesterday in locations close to British Steel sites. Echelon Wealthcare managing director Alistair Rush, who set up Operation Chive, was in Welsh town Port Talbot, where he and six advisers offered guidance to some 25 steelworkers on their pensions. Rush said most of those who came to the sessions are still in the British Steel Pension Scheme (BSPS) and do not know what to do next, or have already transferred out of the scheme.
