In the UK the FTSE 100 Index has climbed 8.70 points higher to 5230.30 led by Compass.
The food services firm has advanced 15p or 6% to 256p, on speculation from the Times, a bidding company arranged by Allied Domecq chairman Gerry Robinson, could make an offer for Compass. Antofagasta has added 58p to 1351p, with BPB picking up a further 21p to 669.5p, based on continued speculation of a takeover bid from French outfit Cie. de Saint-Gobain. Cadbury Schweppes meanwhile has lost 4.5p to 537.5p this morning.
