The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) has launched a presence in Cape Town. This will open the door to trust and estate practitioners to become a member of the networking organisation, which offers a globally-recognised trusts and estate practitioners' qualification.
Global offshore legal, fiduciary and admin service provider Appleby has opened an office in the Republic of the Seychelles and claims to be the first international law firm to open in the country. Located in Victoria, the office is designed to offer clients greater access to emerging markets in Africa, Asia and India.
Malcolm Moller, managing partner of Appleby's Mauritius office will also serve as managing partner in the Seychelles which will offer corporate and trusts administration services. Conrad Benoiton, chairman of the Seychelles International Business Authority, director general securities and financial markets, Central Bank of Seychelles will become managing director of Appleby Corporate Services (Seychelles).
Canada Life International (CLI) has hired Mark Armstrong as head of operations. He joins from AXA Isle of Man where he was director of technical and proposition support. Starting his career as finance director at Allied Dunbar International, he has also worked at Zurich, Royal Skandia and Eagle Star.
RBC Wealth Management has appointed Keith Pearse as head of human resources for the international arm of the firm. He will also join RBC Wealth Management's international executive committee. Latterly director of operations at London law firm CMS Cameron McKenna, Pearse was previously head of knowledge and information management for Arthur Andersen in Europe.
Carey Olsen has bolstered its corporate, finance and fiduciary teams in Jersey by hiring three partners. Siobhan Riley will focus on specialist service to trust company clients, while Marcus Pallot joins two other partners in the CI banking team concentrating on banking businesses that operate in Jersey. Formerly at Ogier, Robin Smith is a corporate lawyer who centres on Carey Olsen's specialist service to its trust company clients.
Senior transaction banking professional Manfred Fleckenstein will join SEB Cash Management on 1 September as head of CM Advisory Germany. He has formerly worked at Dresdner Bank, latterly as global head of cash management.
