Piers Hillier has been appointed head of European institutional equities at Deutsche Asset Management UK as part of a shake-up of portfolios. Hillier, who joins from Schroders where he was director of pan-European equities, will report directly to Stephen Barrow, head of global equities.
In related moves, Katrina Mitchell and Julian Barrell - both long-only European equities fund managers - will move to manage long-short funds.

Simone Sik-Mun Loke, who boasts 17 years of relevant professional experience, has been hired by Atlantic Investment Management as a senior equity analyst.
Her primary responsibilities will be equity research as it relates to the international operations of AIM's US companies. She will also be analysing non-US companies which conform to its long and short universe criteria in preparation for a new equity hedge fund focused on non-US firms which may be launched in the coming year.
AIM has also appointed Maria Andriasova as executive assistant with responsibilities including administrative support and client relations.

Mark Roberts has been appointed head of European equity sales by Fox-Pitt, Kelton - the global investment banking operation which specialises in financial institutions.
Roberts will be responsible for the team of salespeople based in London who market FPK's equity research on financial services stocks in Europe, the US and Asia to major institutional investors around the world.
Previously he was head of financials specialist sales and co-head of banks research at Lehman Brothers, which he joined in 2000.

Gerrard Private Bank in the Isle of Man has appointed Jon Evans to the role of senior private banker. Evans boasts more than 15 years of offshore banking experience within the retail, expatriate and private banking sectors of Jersey, Hong Kong and the Isle of Man.
He will be primarily responsible for the management of the private and personal banking teams on the island, as well as marketing its services.

Simon Brennan has become an investment manager at Gerrard - with the title divisional director - after moving from Kleinwort Benson Private Bank where he had spent his 17-year career. During that time he developed extensive experience in the management of UK-based private individuals, trusts, charities and pensions.
Mark Hamstead is also joining Gerrard as a divisional director after spending 10 years as a portfolio manager for Kleinwort Benson where he managed investment portfolios for private clients and trusts, as well as being the lead fund manager for the UK authorised unit trust.
Prior to Kleinwort Benson, Hampstead had worked for William M Mercer.

Guy Varney is joining Sagitta Asset Management, the independent wealth manager, to become finance director. Varney, who has been with Schroders for 15 years and was most recently executive director of corporate development.
He started his career in the investment banking division before moving to Schroder Investment Management where he took responsibility for structuring and running the London-based international fund management support team.

Aspect Capital has appointed Roman Pelka to the position of head of European institutional sales and to manage the company's regional office in Geneva.
Dominic Steel joins Aspect Capital's five-strong equity research team as a senior research analyst. Previously he was an assistant director in the global quantitative research area of ABN Amro.
Separately, Aspect is promoting Dan McCausland to structured product and managed account manager.

Aaron Pong has been appointed investment director focusing on China for Standard Life Investments, the global fund manager.
He joins following six years at Royal Bank of Canada Investment Management (Asia) where he was senior portfolio manager responsible for management of non-Japan Asia regional portfolios.

Chris de Young, who has more than 12 years of relevant professional experience, has been appointed high yield credit analyst, based in New York. He will join the research team headed up by Jack Davis and consisting of 18 credit analysts based in London, New York, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong.

John Morris has joined ABN Amro Mellon to head up the trustee and depositary services from its UK branch. His new role will see him directing the trustee/depository operating model and instigating the strategy to take the services to market.

Keith Burman has been appointed vice-president at Brown Brothers Harriman to lead the expansion of the company's real estate investment fund services business in Luxembourg.
The team will be supported by Ramon van Heusden who has been hired to head the real estate service team from HAL Holding, where he was in charge of consolidation and group reporting.
Joyce Dardonis has been appointed senior vice-president and head of securities lending sales for the Americas. She joins from State Street Corporation where she was vice-president and senior relationship manager for securities lending.

There have been a number of appointments made at director level.
Ville Niiranen and Shailen Popat are joining DrKW's liquid market sales group and both will report to Angela Osborne, global hedge fund sales coordinator and Charles Matterson, European head of liquid product sales.
Roger Allen, who has 20 years of experience, recently joined the bank as head of FX hedge fund sales. He reports to Christian Exshaw, European head of FX sales.
Sophie Granchi will join the equity derivatives flow sales group this month with a brief to target hedge fund clients. For the last three years she was head of the listed equity derivative desk at BNP Paribas.

Bank of Bermuda has appointed Jackie Tomecek as vice-president, director of sales in San Francisco. She will be responsible for the growth of the division's hedge fund client base on the west coast.
Tomecek will report jointly to Scott Epstein, head of global fund services in San Francisco and Fergus Healy, regional director of sales for the Americas.
Last month International Investment reported that Tom Joy had been appointed head of portfolio research for RMB International. In fact, he had been promoted from that position to chief investment officer. In his new role he will be responsible for constructing strategic asset allocations as well as manager research in a number of asset classes.
