Michael Petronella, president of Dow Jones Indexes, has been elected chairman of the Supervisory Board of STOXX Limited, effective July 1, 2003. In addition, the Supervisory Board of STOXX Limited announced that Elizabeth von Werra has been appointed to managing director, effective Sept. 1, 2003. Petronella succeeds the current chairman Christoph Lammersdorf, managing director, information services, at Deutsche Boerse. The change is a result of the regular annual election of the chairman of the Supervisory Board. Petronella, 47, president of Dow Jones Indexes/Ventures, was appointed managing director of Dow Jones Indexes in January 1997. He joined Dow Jones & Company in 1974 after receiving a bachelor's degree in accounting and an MBA from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ Elisabeth von Werra, 41, will be responsible for the day-to-day management of STOXX Limited and the global promotion, sale and distribution of the pan-European family of Dow Jones STOXX Indexes.

Dicom Group, a global electronic document capture company announced that ex-Henderson investment manager, John Alexander, has been appointed as a non-executive director. John Alexander specialised in the UK smaller company sector, latterly worked at Henderson Global Investors between 1992 and 2002.

Thames River Capital has announced that Jeff Thompson will join the firm on 1 August. He comes from Coronation Asset Management where he managed the Coronation European long/short fund. At Thames River, he will report to Tony Zucker and contribute to the analysis and management of stocks within the Kingsway Fund. Tony Zucker commented: 'We have been wanting to make a number of hires for a while but it is difficult to find the combination of calibre and team fit. Jeff brings a lot of skill and will settle into our style of management very well.'

Schroders has appointed James Cardew as head of UK retail marketing, reporting to Robin Stoakley, managing director of Schroder UK Retail. Cardew will join the team on 16 June. Prior to joining Schroders, James was responsible for international retail marketing communications at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers from February 2001. From September 1997 to February 2001, James was head of UK broker marketing at MLIM.

Gerrard Limited, a UK private client wealth managers, has appointed a new head of compliance, Simon Gray, responsible for all of Gerrard's compliance affairs. Gray was most recently director of compliance with Smith & Williamson Group, but his career in compliance, risk and investigation spans over 13 years with organisations such as IMRO, the Serious Fraud Office and Baring Asset Management.

Brunswick AM, the fund management arm of Brunswick Capital, has appointed Karen Clarke as chief executive officer. Prior to joining Brunswick Asset Management, the 43-year old was with the F&C Group. She joined F&C in 1995 and during her seven and a half years there she held the positions of chief operating officer of F&C emerging markets, head of group product strategy and development and director of hedge funds. Karen has experience in building financial advisory and fund management businesses and has a mandate to grow Brunswick Asset Management through acquisition and hiring so as to exploit the considerable opportunities for fund management services in the Russian market.

EFG has bolstered it's 'inpats' team ' devoted to the needs of international expatriates living in the UK ' with the appointment of Alex Langen as senior director and Bill Humphries as director. Langen will cover a range of markets including South Africans living in the UK while Humphries will cover French expats, among others. Langen was previously a senior banker at Standard Bank, London, where he managed relationships with South African clients. Prior to moving to the UK, he was director of offshore products and services at Standard Bank in Johannesburg. Humphries has more than 16 years' experience in high-level private client wealth management both in London and Bermuda.

Insight Investment has strengthened its fixed income money market and dealing team with the appointment of Yvonne McGrann as head of dealing, fixed income. McGrann, 34, joins Insight from Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, where she has been a fixed income dealer for the past eight years. Prior to this, McGrann was a dealer at Legal and General. McGrann joins Insight's 10-strong money market and dealing team at the end of June. She will report to Nigel Pullen-Warner, head of money market and dealing.

The London arm of Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch has appointed Christine Farquhar to head its fixed income desk. Farquar will join on 1 July 2003 from Insight Investment, the asset management arm of HBOS Group, where she was head of the £31.5bn fixed income and cash management business. Also joining LODH this month is Daniel Loughney. Previously a UK government bond analyst at Threadneedle Investment Management, Loughney was responsible for sterling sovereign and supranational bond strategy.

Girard Miller, president and CEO of the ICMA Retirement Corporation, has been appointed executive vice-president and chief operating officer of Janus effective June 30, 2003. Miller, who is 52 and has 30 years' experience in investment services and financial management, will report to Janus Capital Group President and CEO Mark Whiston. As COO, Miller will direct all of Janus Capital Group's day-to-day operations except its investment management subsidiaries and institutional sales department. His responsibilities will include finance, marketing, investor operations, information technology, legal, compliance, corporate affairs/governance and human resources.

Eileen Tindall has been appointed head of treasury for the Mako Group. Previously, she was group treasurer of First Choice, a FTSE 250 company. Tindall brings to Mako over 10 years' experience in the field of treasury. Tindall will be responsible for establishing and developing the treasury function to ensure the effective management of the company's capital and funding. Additional responsibilities will include managing stock borrowings, co-ordinating the global pooling of cash resources and minimising the group's FX exposure.
