Credit Suisse is expanding its business in the Channel Islands by opening an office in Jersey within the next couple of weeks.
The company, which already has a significant presence in Guernsey, is only planning a modest operation at first.
But Gail Cargill, who will manage the Jersey outfit, hopes to recruit more staff as the business expands over the coming months.
"Credit Suisse has taken the decision to open an office in Jersey because we recognise that not only is this a prestigious, well-regulated jurisdiction, but one that is dynamic and successful in attracting new business," she said.
Cargill also paid tribute to the island's regulatory authorities which she claimed had given Credit Suisse "enormous support."
She added: "At every step our experience has been very much that Jersey is open for business which is extremely encouraging."
It is understood that all regulatory requirements have been met and executives are now scouring the island for potential sites. "Suitable places have been identified and we could be open for business within a few weeks," said one source.
