Standard & Poor's has added another fund analysis utility to its online fund information service.
The new tool, called a Fractal Map, allows data from large numbers of funds to be grasped more easily in a visual way.
The proprietary technology, which was created and is owned by a software group called Fractal Edge, is currently only available for UK-registered funds, including offshore funds. The company would like to roll out this facility to all their databases but it is waiting to see what the take-up is of the new service in the UK before committing to the process.
By allowing investors to see thousands of funds at the same time, it makes it easier to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses, according to the company.
