New Star's Chris Burling, head of Japanese equities, has taken over as manager of its Japan Recovery fund.
Burling replaces Michelle Saunders who will now concentrate on her hedge fund. He will manage the Japan Recovery fund with Andrew Gibbs.
The pair will follow a five-step investment process that involves narrowing the stock universe to 250 companies, undertaking fundamental analysis to explore valuations and prospects, identifying catalysts for medium-term performance, selecting the stocks with greatest "breakout" potential and employing risk controls to determine the final composition.
Burling has 23 years' investment experience, including over 11 years investing in Japanese equities. Prior to joining New Star in 2006, he was a fund manager at Gartmore Investment Management for over 13 years. In addition to Japan, his experience includes investing in North American and Asia, excluding Japan equity markets.
