hedge fund platform to educate advisers
Arjent has appointed Alan Ross as sales manager, following the launch of its IFA hedge fund platform.
Ross will be responsible for promoting the platform to more than 200 advisers in the UK. It includes products from Man Investments, Permal and Fortune and will cover access to single manager hedge funds, commodity trading advisers (CTAs), fund of hedge funds and capital protected portfolios.
In this service, Arjent will construct the portfolio for the adviser's client and customise it to their needs. The group will also handle all the administration on the products as well as provide the adviser and client with monthly reports on the vehicles. In return for introducing clients on the platform, advisers will receive half of the upfront and trail fees on products.
The platform was launched as a result of research which showed advisers were not talking to clients about the benefits of having alternative investments in their portfolios. It revealed only 9% of respondents were told by their advisers that alternative investments such as fund of hedge funds could be included in a pension structure such as a Sipp.
Gregory Perdon, head of alternative investment at Arjent, said: "Our objective for the platform is to educate intermediaries and their clients about absolute and uncorrelated returns, as well as providing them with a different method of downside protection and risk management. The service has been designed for advisers who do not have the knowledge to construct their own hedge fund portfolios."
Ross previously worked in a senior sales position for FSL Services a specialist provider of offshore trust solutions. Prior to this he was with the international banking services division of Royal Bank of Scotland.
