Scottish Mutual International plans to launch into the Italian and Hong Kong market later this year ' with the first product being a with-profits bond. However, the deals are still subject to approval.
Scottish Mutual International sees the Italian market as a natural expansion and its entry strategy will be similar to the one used for the German market.
The first product for the Italian market will be a euro-denominated with-profits bond which will invest in Eurozone equities. Minimum investment is not yet determined, but will reflect local market conditions. Italy has lower premiums than most other European destinations.
The product will be specifically tailored and packaged to meet Italian market conditions.
Tim Nelson, sales director at Scottish Mutual International, said: 'Europe has been traditionally a bond market. Local products do not have an equity focus and European investors see equity type bonds as an interesting alternative.'
