Luxembourg insurance expert James Ball has died after suffering a heart attack at his home in Cyprus. Ball was partner of JBI Deloitte, Deloitte & Touche's Insurance and Employee Benefits Consulting service line. During the past 12 years his particular focus had been on European-level financial services, prudential supervision and its national implementation.
He also sat on a number of industry associations and was the EU liaison officer for the Association of International Life Offices (Ailo). Through Ailo, he had been actively involved in cross-border industry consultations such as the European commission's February 2000 Interpretative Communication on the insurance sector.
Stuart Fairclough, chief executive officer at Ailo, said: "James not only advised many of us on how to develop our business but also became firm friends with many of us and he will be sorely missed."
