this year's revamped International investment awards will take place on 10 May at london's Victoria plaza hotel
International Investment has expanded the judging panel for its Offshore Fund and Product Awards and revamped several of the categories.
There are four new judges for 2006: Leslie Smith, founder of intermediary business Medibroker; Sam Liddle, director of multi-manager group Miton Optimal; Laurence Boyle, head of the intermediary investment management division of Williams de Broe: and Tanya Bird, editor of International Investment.
They join the existing panel (see table below) in judging entries across 14 categories. This is the same number as in previous years but several changes have been made, although the fundamental methodology behind them remains the same.
This year the six awards for life and banking will take into account the range and quality of investment links available, including third-party funds.
Last year's Best Offshore Structured Product award has been broadened to become the Best Offshore Structured Product Provider award. This is designed to reward the group that consistently produces good quality product throughout the year, rather than focusing on a single issue. The judges feel this better reflects the way the market is developing with more providers issuing products more often.
The biggest changes take place with the three investment awards. For the first time there will be an award for the asset management house providing the best overall range of funds via third-party links to the international market.
The Best Offshore Fund Range award remains the same: aimed at groups with non-UK domiciled portfolios and the Best International Fund Group is designed to recognise and reward the top overall asset management house providing product to the market, regardless of whether its range is domiciled in the UK, offshore or is a mixture of both.
All three investment categories will look at past performance figures from each of the last three years in helping the judges pull together their short-lists for entrants.
The closing date for entry is Friday 24 February. For more information on the awards and an entry form please go to www.offshoreawards.com.
The entries are then considered by a panel of independent industry experts including intermediaries, which use the completed questionnaires, research material from third parties such as De Faqto and their own knowledge and experience to pick the winners and highly commended in each category.
Short-lists for the awards, now in their sixth year, will be announced in April and the winning entries will be unveiled on 10 May at a black tie dinner at London's Victoria Park Plaza Hotel.
The evening event, designed to recognise and celebrate the very best the offshore industry has to offer, follows on from a full day conference held at the same venue.
The International Investment London Forum, now in its eighth year, brings together leading figures in the industry to address the biggest issues facing advisers.
