Britannic Asset Management has named Peter Wolger and Asa Norrie as European business development managers. Both managers will be responsible for developing new business and relationships with institutional clients and investment consultants in Europe. Wolger, who speaks Swedish, Norwegian, German and Danish, as well as English, began his career with Skandia in Sweden in 1999. He moved to London in 2001 to join Insight Investments where he was responsible for investment sales and business development for the Nordic region. Norrie joined Britannic six years ago as a client relationship manager with the company's UK institutional team. She speaks Finnish, German and Swedish, and English.

Promotion: Canada Life International
Tony Parry, executive director of Canada Life International (CLI), has been appointed managing director. This follows the decision by Sue Corlett to retire after 17 years. Parry joined CLI in 1994 as financial controller and was promoted to chief financial officer in 1996. In 1998, he was appointed to the board and in August 2003 took on the role as director of business development. Parry is also treasurer of the Association of International Life Offices (Ailo).

To: Friends Provident
Greg Norton has joined Friends Provident as head of actuarial services from Aviva. He will have particular responsibilities for economic capital modelling, research and development and will supervise the implementation of the FSA's new regulatory reporting regime. Norton will work alongside Paul Cooper, who heads up asset/liability management, and Mike Collins, who is responsible for with-profits actuarial work.
Name: Giles Gilbertson and Antony John
Investment Management Selection (IMS) has named Giles Gilbertson and Antony John as managing directors. Gilbertson, previously director, head of research at IMS, is now responsible for all investment related issues. John has taken over responsibility for business development, client services and all non-investment activities. "As IMS continues to gain recognition in the UK and internationally, these appointments are a key factor in our continuing ambitious plans," said Richard Timberlake, chairman of IMS.

Promotion: Investec Private bank
Patrick Millar has joined Investec Private Bank's private client investment management team. He started his career in Canada as treasury manager of a large town responsible for cash, money market and bond portfolios management and overseeing the debenture financing programme. Having moved to Guernsey three years ago, Millar will provide investment consulting services to high net worth individuals, corporations and trusts for Investec Private Bank.

To: Isle of Man Finance
Isle of Man Finance has recruited Nick Boon as business development manager for the banking industry. Boon has previously worked for Coutts as a private banking manager dealing with high net worth clients and before that Barclays Bank. He will be responsible for developing and managing the Isle of Man's marketing strategy in support of the banking industry. Boon will focus on helping to open new markets for banks already on the island and encouraging new banks to establish themselves in the Isle of Man. Aidan Doherty, deputy president of the association of licensed banks, said: "With the introduction of the EU Savings Directive adding uncertainty in an already competitive international banking industry, Nick's appointment has to be welcomed and is a clear and positive indication of Treasury's support for the banking sector on the Isle of Man."

Lynx has hired Claire Lloyd Vine as sales executive for the Caribbean region from the office in the Cayman Islands. She will support Jay Schutte, Lynx's director of operations for the Caribbean region. Before joining Lynx, Vine spent three and a half years as sale and account manager at Trace Financial. Prior to this, she was a business systems manager specialising in financial services at Mercator Software.

Nedcor Wealth Management has appointed Rowan Williams-Short as chief investment officer of its London-based asset management team, which specialises in fund of funds and hedge funds. Williams-Short began his career in 1989 at Old Mutual Investments (now Old Mutual Asset Managers) as a bond analyst and portfolio manager before heading its derivative research. He has subsequently been chief investment officer at Prudential Portfolio Managers (South Africa) and the CIO and chief executive officer of African Harvest Managers. Nedcor has also hired Sheldon Macdonald as senior analyst for the London team.

Schroders has recruited Naveed Chaudhry as a research analyst for its fund of hedge funds team. Chaudhry was previously an investment manager at Lombard Odier for the institutional fixed income product. Before that, he worked at State Street Bank and Trust. Also joining the team as a research analyst is Jean-Pierre du Plessis. Prior to moving to Schroders, Plessis was head of international fixed income evaluation at Standard & Poor's and a propriety bond trader at WestLB. These two recruits take the strength of Schroders' fund of hedge funds team to 11. Assets under management have grown from $350m to more than $1bn over the past four years.
Name: Shelley Robertson
Skandia has appointed Shelley Robertson as international marketing manager. She will be responsible for the marketing of both the Isle of Man-based Royal Skandia and Dublin-based Skandia Ireland. Robertson was previously protection brand manager at Skandia. She has been caretaker marketing manager for Skandia Ireland since the departure of John Hudson in June. Nic Burton remains as marketing manager of Royal Skandia.

Robert Swan has been appointed marketing manager by Skandia Investment Management Limited. Reporting to head of marketing David Orr, he will be involved in the marketing and promotion of the asset management product range to the intermediary market. At Henderson Global Investors, he was head of marketing and research and managed a team of eight. Prior to that, he was assistant marketing director at Close Finsbury Asset Management.
